NJHS to LEAD, D.C.

Visit our GoFundMe to contribute!

Please help us send Brooklyn Urban Garden School's founding National Junior Honor Society to represent our school at the LEAD (Leadership Experience and Development) conference in Washington, D.C. in February 3-5 2017!

Our title 1 school is excited to send 10 elite 6th, 7th and 8th grade students (and three chaperones) on the opportunity of a lifetime! At LEAD, students will attend confrences on leadership, particiapte in panels to develop skills to improve our school culture and make lifelong connections with other student leaders from around the country!

National Junior Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929.

However, the cost of this trip is steep. To ease the cost for these students, we are humbly asking for $4000 for the following:

- Two nights at a D.C. hotel
- Transportation to D.C.
- Food for three days
- Conference dues

Thank you so much for your support! Any donation to our GoFundMe will bring our students closer to achieving their dream!

MORE WORK TO DO!

VISIT OUR GO FUND ME TO CONTRIBUTE!

Please help Brooklyn Urban Garden School's founding National Junior Honor Society to continue our awesome leadership work in 2017!

Our title 1 school's chapter of NJHS includes 30 exceptional 6th, 7th and 8th grade students with a 3.5 GPA or higher, stellar behavior and a commitment to community service.

So far this year, 10 of our students attended the LEAD conference in Washington , D.C. Our goal is to continue to foster their passion for leadership, service and honor through more real world experiences. Our goal: take ALL 30 of our students to our next event, an overnight trip to Greenkill Outdoor Education Center!

Greenkill Outdoor Education Center provides safe and educational programs for students through a holistic approach to leadership training, character building and community awareness. Through guided discovery, communal living, hands on exploration, and engaging their peers, students will build character development and learn the interrelationships that exist socially and in nature. Teambuilding activities provide a catalyst for students to work together to achieve a series of common goals. All activities are meant to teach about communication, leadership and support for others.

  • Collected and donated over 100 cans for City Harvest  to help combat hunger in NYC

World Hunger Month! Oxfam Banquet

NJHS is holding an OXFAM Banquet on Wednesday, June 7th during lunch and Advancement. The purpose of the banquet is to help raise money and awareness for OXFAM, an organization working tirelessly to help support malnourished and hungry children worldwide.

Nearly one out of every three of us lives in poverty.
But we see a future in which no one does.

The way we see it, poverty is solvable—
A problem rooted in injustice.
Eliminate injustice and you can eliminate poverty.
We’re not saying it will be quick or easy,
but it can be done.
We won't patch a problem and then disappear.
We won't stand by silently and watch others suffer.

Instead, we stand together against injustice.
We recognize our responsibility
to hold the powerful accountable.
We see people’s power to change their lives.

It disturbs us that in a world as rich as ours,
many of us go hungry or don’t have clean water.
Many of us can’t claim our human rights.

It’s wrong.
And together we aim to do what’s right.

The banquet will also provide food, entertainment, and insight on the issues facing impoverished children across the globe. BUGS is honored to host this event. Would you like to join us? Tickets are $5, which includes your meal and entertainment! Hope to see you there!
