We hope this email finds you staying healthy and calm. I cannot overstate how we appreciate your support during this evolving health crisis, and how we think of our students and families every day as we prepare to come together again for the launch of remote learning tomorrow, March 23.
COVID-19:
Please be advised that a parent of a BUGS 6th grade student has tested positive for COVID-19. That parent was last on-site at the school on Tuesday March 10th for BUGS Student Led Conferences. The parent had no symptoms at the time. Their child was last in the building on Thursday March 12th.
Our hearts go out to this family as our community comes together to support one another. We ask your understanding that we cannot provide additional information about the family as patient privacy issues are involved with all cases.
There may have been students and staff members who could have interacted with the parent and child. We remind everyone, as per NY Department of Health guidelines, to monitor for the following symptoms:
*Fever of above 100.4
*Cough
*Difficulty breathing
In addition to the above, sore throat, headache, and diarrhea should also be monitored. These additional symptoms alone do not mean that the virus has been contracted.
All individuals should be practicing social distancing and proper hand washing. If you feel the need to visit your doctor, please call first. If you believe that you have the symptoms of COVID-19, please call your doctor.

Remote Learning:
As you know, Remote Learning starts for students tomorrow, Monday March 23rd. As mentioned before, if you have not done so already, please do the following:

Students Should Be Ready for Remote Learning Instruction TOMORROW Monday, March 23
All BUGS students are expected to log into their Advisory class through Google Classroom by 8:15 a.m. on Monday, March 23. There they will receive instructions on how to log into their first class (Advisory) using Google Hangouts Meet. Teachers will be ready to provide student supports for navigating the first day of remote instruction. Students will follow their regular class schedule.
School Food:
Starting on Monday March 23rd, grab and go meals will only be available at a designated 439 sites across the city. Please note that these sites may change over time. We will notify you if there are any changes.
Meals will not be available at the BUGS/Bishop Ford Campus. However, the DOE has provided more information and a free meal site locator here: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-life/food/free-meals
Any students 18 and under may go to any of these sites to pick up one breakfast and two lunch meals.
Other relevant information:
Breakfast and lunch will be available for grab and go from 7:30 a.m.1:30 p.m.
Grab and go meals will be distributed by Schoolfood staff members at the main building entrance of the site. Meals must be consumed offsite.
Currently: students will only be able to pick up one day's worth of meals (one breakfast and two lunch meals).
Regional Recreation Centers (RECs):
In order to successfully fight COVID-19, our first responders, health care providers, transit workers, and other key personnel must be able to come to work. That is why the DOE has created Regional Enrichment Centers (RECs)—places where the children of these front-line workers can be safely cared for while their parents continue to serve the city in this time of need. Staffed by DOE employees and community-based organization partners, the centers will provide children with three hot meals daily, remote learning time with their teachers, activities like art and music, and social and emotional support. Regional Enrichment Centers will be available citywide. More information is available on the DOE Website.
